The forest actually existed millions of years ago when this land was part of Pangea. At that time it was located near the equator approximately where Costa Rica is today. It was a rainforest with huge trees and even early dinosaurs and other scary, teethy reptiles. When the continents moved to their current positions these trees came too. The trees petrified when they fell and we’re covered with water where soluble minerals were absorbed into wood turning it to stone.
The scenery was stunning....
We ended our day with the number 1 destination on my American bucket list— The Wigwam Motel on old RT. 66 in Holbrook, Arizona. Today fulfilled a lot of my childhood dreams.
Wildlife:
5 rabbits
1 Roadkill

Are you going to Sunset Crater? asks Chris. 😊 Are going to Flagstaff?
ReplyDeleteMy question is are you going to the Hopi Reservation? (My favorite)
ReplyDeleteI should've warned you about the petrified forest but I did love it when I went there. It's amazing to see how everything is stone. I'm glad you went because it's really hard to describe but it is really cool!
ReplyDeleteWe went through Flagstaff yesterday, but didn’t stop. My mother was so happy to see trees. We also did not stop at the Hopi Reservation. We haven’t planned to go to sunset crater, we’ll look it up. I actually liked the Petrified Forest Nat’l Park, it Was fascinating.
